In
1992, Francis P. Cancelliere, son John Cancelliere, and son
Michael Cancelliere of Bethlehem Contracting Corporation in
Bath, PA joined forces with Lionel Michelman and son Eric Michelman
of Michelman Iron Works in Brooklyn, NY. At that time, the two
companies began to work in conjunction with each other. In 2002,
Bethlehem Contracting Corporation and Michelman Iron Works officially
merged to form one company, Michelman-Cancelliere Iron Works,
Inc. (MCIW), based at their Bath, PA location.
Bethlehem Contracting Corporation was originally founded in
1933 in Bethlehem, PA. By the early 1960s, the company outgrew
its former facility necessitating a move to a more spacious
site in 1965. The company chose a 33-acre site situated only
three miles north of Bethlehem off Route 512 in Bath, PA at
MCIW's present location. The site provided the company with
more efficient material flow in and out of the facility with
its direct access to railroads, increased storage area for finished
fabrications, and improved material stockpiling. In 1986, Francis
P. Cancelliere purchased the company from the former owner.
Over the years, Bethlehem Contracting has had a hand in building
a wide array of structures including schools, bridges, mills,
high-rise offices and apartment buildings, churches, environmental
system support structures and even WWII battleship hatch covers.
Michelman Iron Works was founded 1946 in Brooklyn, NY by David
Michelman and his brother Milton Michelman. Their cousin Sam
Michelman later joined in the partnership in 1951. Lionel would
initially join the company in 1968, learning the business from
the ground up. For many years the company had worked with a
major utility giant in NYC, forging an alliance that would last
steadily until about 1980. At that time, the company would branch
out into NYC Transit Authority work, landing its first major
bridge rehabilitation project in 1984. The company became firmly
entrenched in this arena and remained based in Brooklyn until
it merged with Bethlehem Contracting in 1992. During the period
between 1984-1992, Michelman Iron Works would initially forge
many associations that MCIW currently enjoys with its clients
in the NYC Metropolitan area.
Today the company owns over 105,000 square feet of shop floor
space and continues to grow into the 21st Century with its current
expansion plans. The company has performed work in major cities
and rural areas all across the Eastern Seaboard and as far west
as the Rocky Mountain region.
So, we have had a lot of time to develop our expertise in many
different areas relating to structural steel fabrication and
manufacture. We believe the history of MCIW starts yesterday.
Each new day brings new possibilities for our company and our
clients. |
